Twestival TO popped up and pops off

Last week, I attended Twestival TO. Twestival (twitter+festival) is a twitter festival event that happens around the globe. Each event raises money for a local charity. The Toronto event sponsored The Remix Project, a community youth arts organization. The event included, Twidol (Karoake), performances by members of The Remix Project, Art work, live art, and drinks appropriately called #tigerblood and #smashtag. On the tech side of things, the event was streamed live, their was a QR code scavenger hunt, and had two twitter walls.
This event brought together Toronto Twitter/Social Media Community with an Urban Arts organization to raise money and have a great time. It had social media, bloggers Michael Nus and Casie Stewart partying with Remix’s Gavin Shepard to the sound of DJ Agile.
The concept of Global/Local (I hate the term glocal, how about real-time events, distrubuted events, pop-up events?) Events, i.e. events happening in cities all over the world at the same time is a growing trend and fits perfectly with Social Media’s real-time focus. I would go as far to say this is the future of events. It won’t be long before we have twitter walls at clubs, QR code giveaways, and more real-time distributed events popping up around the world.
