The Black Keys in T.O.

I had the pleasure of checking out The Black Keys concert last Thursday. As someone who has known The Black Keys since before they were The Black Keys, it is always amazing to see them fill an amphitheater.

The show was great, albeit a little shorter then I would have liked. I could have listened to every song twice. I love the minimal set-up they had at the beginning of the show. Just Dan and Pat rocking out. As the show went on they added more lights and a few more musicians. At the end a giant Black Keys sign lit up the stage.

The show even offered a chance for fans to win upgraded seats by texting a number before the show started. I would love to see more of this at all the shows I attend. Of course, I believe in any opportunity to engage your fans using technology and/or social media.

All in all it was a great night. And its really great to see fellow Akronites achieving such success.

Google + is Here.

Google+ Welcome page.

I got my google+ invite yesterday. I spent maybe five minutes on it when I first signed up and another five on it today. I’m curious to see how the service will develop.
The problem is that Facebook already has so many users. These users are heavily investedĀ  in the service. This tweet from @Kat says it all:

I have to say I agree with her. Google probably hopes that Google+ will do what Facebook did to Myspace, which was sold again this past week. However, that hope underestimates Facebook. FB has shown the ability to adapt and expand in ways Myspace never did. The one place Google+ might beat FB is in the mobile space as the service is already customized for mobile and to be honest FB is crap on both my phone and my ipad.

I just don’t know when I will find the time to experiment with Google+. In addition, I have invested so much time into Facebook and Twitter, not to mention Linkedin, Tumblr, and Soundcloud. That being said I already spend less time on FB mostly because as much as I like stalking my friend’s profiles, I enjoy conversing and sharing on Twitter.

For now, I’ll put my money on FB. Let’s talk in six month? I could easily be proven wrong.
